Counter Strike: Global Offensive remained the number one game on Steam in 2021 by hourly average number of players of 604 million on average.

Channels & streamers
As of the beginning of 2022, Fextralife is noted as the most popular streamer by total views with an accumulated total of 1.8 million views. Following this channel is Riot Games with 1.3m views.
As of 2021, the most popular channel through peak all time concurrent viewers is ‘TheGrefg’ who streams games such as Fortnite and Just Chatting reached 2.39 million concurrent viewers – this is currently a record peak amongst the platform.
As of 2021, the most popular Twitch channel remains to be Tyler Blevins – nicknamed ‘ninja’ on Twitch with a total of 17.4 million followers on the platform as of February 2022.
Games
As of January 2022, Rust logged in the most viewers at a peak rate of 917,700 in the preceding 30 days of the time that it was recorded in January.
In regards to CSGO on Twitch, it took a dip as of April 2022 with an average of 81,000 viewers. CSGO had peaked in recent months in February 2022 with an average viewership of 100,000 and November 2021 of 111,000 due to the PGL Major in Stockholm.
As of March 2022, Elden Ring has become the most watched video game with a total of 74.7 million hours watched weekly logged in. Grand Theft Auto V comes in second with a total of 29.7 million and League of Legends came in third with 28.4 million.
VALORANT became Twitch’s most popular new IP through hours watched by that the game accumulated a total of 737 hours on the game through the live-streaming platform.
By categories, Just Chatting was the most popular genre to watch in 2021 – logging in over 3 billion hours of global watch time. Following this is Grand Theft Auto 5 at 2.1 billion and League of Legends at 1.8 billion.

As of April 2022, CSGO had a peak concurrent player base of 1.01 million. This peaked in March of the proceeding year at nearly 1.2 million players to where the pandemic played a factor due to many people turning to video games as a form of entertainment.
In April 2022, Rockstar-developed game Grand Theft Auto 5 (named ‘V’) reached a total of 153.6 thousand concurrent players on Steam, this is down from an all-time high of over 220,000 thousand peak concurrent players in February 2020.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is one of the most popular games on Steam and had over 527,000 peak concurrent players on the platform in April 2022. The highest this peaked was in January 2018 at 3.24 million.
From the creation of Steam back in 2003, the gaming platform has an accumulative gaming library of 1,514 titles since the first two months of 2022.
Reach & impact
Steam saw themselves 9th ranked as the most popular digital video game purchase entity in 2022.
There are a variety of digital game platforms for developers. 21% of responding video game developers reported that 100% of their revenue was generated through platforms such as Steam which saw the largest share of respondents that recorded at least between 50 to 59% of revenue.
In the UK however, Steam have ranked as the fifth most popular digital entities to purchase video games online with a total share of 21%, according to a survey by Statista.
